Furnish me with recommendations for a TELLY
|
Dunno anything about TVs or anything like that but I need a new one.
Bigger the better, all that Smart TV stuff so you can watch Netflix and sync it to your phone to watch Youtube videos and all that. Preferably under the £500 mark.
Are them curved ones any good? Beneficial in any way? Or just a style thing?
TIA
PS I'd like to use it to sometimes watch West Ham United matches when they're televised, just so it keeps this topic relevant.

Samsung are great.
They don't give a shit about copyright in Korea so they nick aspects they like off other companies.
Never had a problem with any Samsung product.

Got a Samsung smart TV last year to replace a Sony Bravia, very impressed with the picture quality and so easy to watch iPlayer Netflix etc.

I bought a Sony Bravia 48"full HD Smart TV last year. The picture and sound are top quality, but I must say that the speed of the telly is questionable.
I'd probably go for a quad core tv next time.
Check out Richer Sounds as some of the TVs (including mine) come with a 5yr warranty on top of the manufacturer's warranty.

Among a few bits of decent advice is a tonne of TERRIBLE advice here.
Don't buy yourself a cheap, unbranded telly from a company you've never heard of- buy something NICE. Because let's face it, as middle class or cultured as you think you are you WILL be staring at it for relatively long periods of time. You just probably won't admit it.
When people come to mine, turn their noses up and say 'THAT'S a big TV' in a slightly condescending way I remind them that I am a Cockney and we like big, loud and shiny things. I also politely remind them that if they don't like it they can fuck right off.
If you're anything like me and I'd guess most of us on here you should put your money into your TV and your kettle because they are the two electrical devices you use most in your house. Your computer comes a distant third.
I am perhaps a bit of an extreme case but I've never bought something because 'it will do' that I've never had to buy again. Buy cheap, buy twice.
Buy yourself the nicest TV you can afford and if you see something nice that you can't afford save up for it.
There are A LOT of cheap, shitty TVs out there and there are some very nice, decently priced TVs too. Read a few reviews and then find one that reviewers rate for the lowest price you can. Don't take the advice of a load of hairy-arsed West Ham supporters as gospel.

I needed, well when I say needed, I required 2 TVs for the wall in the kitchen and our lounge.
I had a budget and resisted all temptations for the latest and sexiest models.
I did a bit of research and plumped for 2 TVs from Amazon, one 48 inch for the lounge and a 43 inch for the kitchen.
Panasonic and LG
Both superb quality, great pictures and decent sound
Price ?
£600 for the both......very happy with that.

as i mentioned early on in this thread, they seem to be offering good value at the moment. every tv they bring out seems to get better and better and they are starting to get some decent reviews. buy through JL and you get their excellent JL warranty. or through RS and if you sign up as a VIP member you get their 6 year warranty.

Not really after "cheap" Trev just "value" I suppose, my experience of buying expensive domestic shit is that you'll see it on sale for about half the price a couple of weeks later.
Not really fussed about brands in the slightest but if it's gonna fall apart or blow up in 6 months with no comeback cos I was too tight to spend another £200 on a Sony or wotevz I'd feel a bit of a tit (more than in my usual day to day life anyway).

Why don't you splash out an get a big curved one, you can then watch stuff in beautiful 4K and then when you've finished you can live under it instead of whatever northern craphole you live in now.
No need to thank me.
